A screen is only as good as the record underneath it

Four places where the data most deal teams licence runs out.

01

Most of the market never took funding

PitchBook and Crunchbase index the companies that announced a round. That is a fraction of what you could buy.

The profitable, family-held businesses that never raised file accounts every year and sit outside those platforms. Start a screen from a funding database and you cap your market before looking at a single target.

02

Financial data on private companies runs thin

Where a private company does appear, the financials are a band, a headline number, or nothing at all.

Turnover with no gross profit will not carry a valuation conversation. So the analyst pulls the accounts by hand anyway, one target at a time.

03

No trace back to the source, the date or the filing

Most platforms show a value and not where it came from. No registry, no timestamp, no document reference.

Ask how old the number is and nobody can say. A figure that cannot be traced gets checked by hand, and then it has stopped saving anyone time.

04

Ownership stops at the shareholder of record

The name on the register is often a holding company in another jurisdiction, itself held by two more.

Who actually controls the company sits three layers up and one border across. By hand that is a week per target, and stale on arrival.

From 600 million to a shortlist

Six passes over the same primary record. Each one narrows the list and adds evidence to the names that survive.

Resolve the entity

One company arrives as six spellings, three trading names and a group abbreviation. Registration number, VAT number and the Global Database ID pin every record to a single legal entity, so a longlist of 400 is 400 companies rather than 260 counted twice.

Three desks, one record

01
Build the sourcing universe from filed accounts, not from announcements.
Private equity and growth

Proprietary origination starts with a universe nobody else has ranked.

Screen on turnover, margin, net assets and filing recency. The profitable, unbanked businesses surface before a process starts.

The ownership chain then tells you on day one whether there is a seller to talk to.

02
Screen every market you operate in on the same fields.
Corporate development

Adjacency mapping across twelve countries usually means twelve datasets with twelve schemas.

One registry-first record covers 200+ countries on consistent fields.

A screen built for Germany runs in Poland and Sweden with no new licence and no new mapping exercise.

03
Build a buyer list that survives the pitch.
Investment banking and advisory

A buyer list is only as good as the evidence under it.

Deal history, group structure and filed financials sit in one record.

You can show who has bought in this sector, who controls them, and whether the balance sheet carries another deal.

Then ask the same record a question

The filed accounts, the ownership chain and the transaction history all sit behind one question box.

Before you test it

Where does the data actually come from?

Primary, government-sourced. We collect from 400+ company registries and official gazettes across 200+ countries, and every field on a profile carries the registry it came from and the date it was filed. Where a value is calculated rather than filed, such as EBITDA derived from the accounts, it is labelled as derived on the record and in the API response.

Which countries and registries are covered?

400+ company registries and official gazettes across 200+ countries, resolving to more than 600 million company profiles. Depth is not uniform and we do not pretend otherwise: some registries publish full statutory accounts, shareholders and beneficial ownership, others publish identity, status and officers only. The data dictionary lists what is available per jurisdiction, so you can check your target markets before committing to anything.

How current is a screen?

Registry sources are synced daily and saved screens re-run against the latest sync. Publication cadence is set by each registry, so a filing that appears in Companies House on Tuesday reaches your screen within one business day, while a jurisdiction that publishes monthly moves at that pace. Sync status per source is visible in the platform.

Do you cover private companies that have never raised capital?

That is the point of the coverage model. The universe starts from the legal obligation to register and file, not from funding announcements, so companies that have never raised and never issued a press release sit on the same footing as venture-backed ones. This is where most mid-market deal flow lives and where funding-first platforms are thinnest.

Can we screen on ownership as well as financials?

Yes, and for origination it is often the more useful filter. Screens can be built on ownership type, whether a sponsor appears on the register, concentration of holdings, presence of an employee trust, foreign parentage, or a change of majority holder inside a window you choose. Those filters run against the shareholder register and the control chain rather than an inferred label.

Does it cover deal history and prior transactions?

Acquisitions, disposals, majority changes and funding events across the group, each tied to the filing or disclosure that evidences it. Where a transaction leaves a registry trace, such as a share allotment, a change of control filing or a note in the accounts, it appears on the timeline with that document referenced.

Can we put this in our own warehouse and models?

Yes. Bulk delivery to S3, GCS or Azure on a schedule you set, delivered with registration number and VAT alongside our own ID, so the join does not depend on a proprietary key, and licensed for redistribution into your own products and models. Commercial terms depend on scope, so the exact licence is agreed at contract.

How does this sit alongside what we already licence?

Most deal teams keep a market-intelligence subscription for the funded market and run us underneath it as the primary record: entity resolution, filed financials, ownership chains, officers and change monitoring. Because every record carries its registration number and VAT number, joining to your existing vendor IDs is a mapping table rather than a migration.

How is it priced?

By data scope and volume rather than by seat, so a screen covering six countries and one sector costs less than one covering the whole of Europe. Platform access, API and bulk delivery are priced separately, and redistribution rights are agreed at contract. Tell us the markets, the fields and the volumes and you get a number.

What does an evaluation look like?

Send a longlist or a screen definition. We run it against live data, return the resolved entities with financials, ownership and provenance, and you compare it against whatever you use now on the same names. Most teams know inside a week.

Compare it to your current source.

Send a sector, a geography and a size band, or a longlist you already hold. We run it against the registry record and hand back the same names with provenance on every field, so you can put the two side by side.
